Short Biography

Depuis 2001, Vincent Greason travaille à la Table ronde des organismes volontaires d’éducation populaire de l’Outaouais (TROVEPO), un regroupement composé d’une vingtaine organismes de la région. De 1993 à 2001, il était responsable du dossier «Éducation» au Mouvement d’éducation populaire et d’action communautaire du Québec (MÉPACQ). Mandaté par la Ligue des droits et libertés, il représentait les organisations non-gouvernementales québécoises lors de l’examen du Canada par le comité expert chargé de l’application du Pacte international des droits économiques, sociaux et culturels (PIDESC - 2006) et lors de la première comparution du Canada en Examen périodique universel (EPU - 2009). Ce sont tous deux des outils de droit international relevant de l’ONU. Boursier de la Fondation Carold en 2009-2010, Vincent sort d’une année de réflexion et d’écriture sur l’état du mouvement communautaire québécois, dont particulièrement celui du secteur de la défense collective des droits. Dans une vie antérieure, il a fait de l’éducation populaire syndicale, notamment en alphabétisation, lorsqu’il a travaillé au Centre d’éducation ouvrière, un projet du Conseil du travail du grand travail. De 1985 à 1987, il a travaillé au bureau canadien du South African Congress of Trade Unions (SACTU) et était actif dans la lutte contre l’apartheid. Il est présentement boursier de la Fondation de droit de l’Ontario tout en étant chercheur associé au Centre de recherche et d’enseignement des droits de la personne à l’Université d’Ottawa.

Since 2001, Vincent Greason has worked at the Table ronde des organismes volontaires d’éducation populaire de l’Outaouais (TROVEPO), a regional coalition of popular education groups. From 1993 until 2001, he worked at the TROVEPO’s provincial movement where he was coordinator. Mandated by the Ligue des droits et libertés, he represented Québec’s NGOs during Canada’s periodic review under the International Convention on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (2006) and during Canada’s first review under the Universal Periodic Review process (2009). Fellow of the Carold Institute (2009-2010), Vincent has just spent a “sabbatical” year researching and writing on the state of Québec’s community movement. In a previous life, he was active in the field of trade union popular education, working at the Metro Labour Education Centre, a project of the Toronto Labour Council. From 1985-87, he worked at the Canadian office of the South African Congress of Trade Unions (SACTU) where he was active in the anti-apartheid struggle. Vincent is currently a holder of the Law Foundation of Ontario’s “Community Leadership in Justice” Fellowship and is a guest researcher at the University of Ottawa’s Human Rights Education and Research Centre.
