Profile: Peggy Edwards is a health promotion consultant, policy analyst and writer based in Ottawa. She has worked with Health Canada, the Canadian Public Health Association and the World Health Organization, and is the co-author of three best-selling books on healthy aging and grandparenting. She specializes in issues related to aging, social justice, voluntarism and gender. Peggy is a leader in the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, which supports African grandmothers who are raising millions of AIDS orphans. She is the co-founder of the National Advocacy Committee of the Grandmothers Campaign, which guides over 10,000 Canadian grandmothers in their efforts to obtain fair resources, systemic change and the rights of women and children.
Project
Peggy’s Fellowship project looked at the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign (which is associated with the Stephen Lewis Foundation) in order to answer the question: “How do we engage, nurture and sustain older women advocates in civil society?” Her findings are captured in a 10-minute video and accompanying materials at GrannyVoices.com.
